The movement was triggered by Beijing's default on its promise of democracy for Hong Kong, and catalysed by brutal crackdown on peaceful student protestors who were unarmed and at no occasion clashed with the police. An initial hundred of protestors ballooned into one hundred and sixty thousand citizens right after the crackdown!
